Eco-Friendly Living Blogs

2024 Election

“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.”

-J.R.R. Tolkien The Fellowship of the Ring

Sustainable Holiday Ideas

Trying to be sustainable during the holidays can feel overwhelming, especially since it’s already an overwhelming time of year for many people. Capitalism and consumerism have changed the holidays into the most expensive time of year, which isn’t fair for anyone and even worse for our planet. With the holidays right around the corner, I wanted to share a few of my own easy tips that I’ve learned over time on how to be more sustainable during this busy time of year.

Meal Planning is Eco-friendly

Did you know that food takes up more space in American landfills than anything else? In fact, about 80 billion pounds of food is thrown out each year in the US! Food waste is a very large issue in this country, and it needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

What Could A Greener Future Look Like?

By now, we all know that things in our world have to change. Many of us are disconnected from nature due to where we live and how our communities are structured. After hundreds of years of humanity distancing itself from nature, how can we live lives that connect us back to the earth?

Trees Are Our Best Neighbors

There’s almost nothing better than sitting under a large tree, relaxing in the shade, and breathing in the fresh air that it offers. In fact, that’s what I’m doing right now as I write this blog post. Trees are magnificent, complicated, intelligent, and magical beings that deserve much more respect than we give them. Trees are one of our biggest allies when it comes to fighting global warming, water shortages, soil pollution and so much more!

Earth Day Every Day

On Earth Day, we celebrate the one thing every human has in common: the earth we all live on and share together. It’s pretty difficult to find something every human has in common, so why is there only one day for this?

Learning How to Respect the Soil

One of my newest obsessions this last year, along with many other people, I think, has been buying plants. Throughout the past year, as I’ve collected more plants, I have learned a lot, and my number one lesson has been to think of the soil as a living being just as much as the plant growing in it. Once I realized this, I started noticing huge improvements in my plants because I understood what the soil needed in order to be healthy.

How being more eco-conscious changed my life

I believe that once we are conscious of the effects that our decisions have on the planet, we begin to change small aspects of our lives to help with the well-being of our earth, and at the moment, we don’t always realize how important these decisions are.

Peer to Peer: Creating the New Normal

Beginning a more eco-friendly lifestyle can be overwhelming and stressful, especially if you are going through the journey alone. When no one else in your life is trying to change their daily habits, it’s very easy to remain in the same routine of consumerism. Throughout your journey, it’s important to remember that you are not alone.

Little Women & Anne Of Green Gables

In this blog post, I explore how the modern retelling of Anne of Green Gables and Little Women shows us eco-friendly lifestyles that we can still adapt to our current society.

 Microplastics

As most of you may know, our oceans are horribly polluted with plastic, so much so that scientists now believe that by the year 2050, there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish. Isn’t that terrifying to think of?!?! We also know that plastic is killing a lot of animals in our rivers, lakes, and oceans because they mistake it for food. But how does this affect us?

Reusing, Donating, Recycling

Before you toss something out, think about how you can reuse/repurpose the item or if you can just donate it. If neither of those options works, then find out if it can be recycled. In my opinion, recycling or simply throwing out something should be the last option. Always consider a second life for the item first.

Keeping it Simple and Eco Friendly

So you’ve decided to start a more environmentally conscious lifestyle but have no idea where to start! If you’re like me and don’t make much money or have little time on your hands, here are a few tips on how I’m making the big change.

Recycling Plastic

Like many of you, I used to believe that I could continue to buy plastic and everything would be fine as long as I recycled it. I recently found out that this is very far from the truth. Only 9% of plastic that has ever been made has actually been recycled. That’s pretty scary! But why is that the case?

 Tips on Reducing Plastic

Plastic is everywhere in our homes and throughout our everyday lives. When looking around, plastic might seem impossible to avoid, but I promise you there are very easy steps that you can take to reduce your plastic waste.
